FAST

Asterid Fastido

A driver in a lethal combat racing tournament; I studied a lot of F1 uniforms to inform her design as well as exploring a wide variety of different styles. I eventually settled on a look that was very graphic and shape based which relied on a lightning bolt motif in the hair. Turning the hair was a challenge, it was most important to determine rules about how it should look from certain angles

Production Still

Below is the development process for a production still within this project. I contended with ideas of showing different parts of Fast's personality, relaxed within her hangar, anxious in preparation for race day, or in the thick of the action. In the end I went for action, the core of the story.

MY AUNT SALLY PRODUCTIONS: VARIOUS PROJECTS

Combat Action Teenz

During my time working with My Aunt Sally I got to design vehicles and mechas, as well as redesigning costumes for existing characters for their I.P. Combat Action Teenz.

Undercover Snail

I also helped to design elements for the pitch of a kids-oriented animation called "Undercover Snail", including characters, costume variants and production stills which explored style.

"BATTLE OF THE CANS" & "UNDELIVERED"

Welsh Man & Mari Lwyd

In "Battle of the Cans", we followed the tale of a man past his prime who's fallen into a rut, living a life barren of excitement. One day the man is visited by a welsh folk creature, the Mari Lwyd, who wants some of his precious cans.

I tried to reflect the personalities of these two characters in my design process. This was a team project and the final style we decided upon was quite abstract, so I started by designing the characters in quite a lot of detail, and then simplified them. With the Welsh man I aimed to make him stubborn and sturdy, employing squares, whilst Mari was fun and playful and took the form of a bubbly, circular amorpous blob.

The Postman

"Undelivered" is a story about getting there at your own pace, which follows a medieval postman passing through a scenic forest. I explored a number of different designs before settling on the older gentleman who moves a little slower. I aimed to keep his design animation friendly, while still including some elements which would have fun overlapping action! His heavy pack helped to inform me about his posture. With his hat I tried to capture some sense of a modern postman's cap, the rest of his costume aimed to make him look medieval.

FINAL YEAR PROJECT

For my final year college project I teamed up with animator Elina Burykina to create an animated world trailer! I wanted to demonstrate my abilties in designing the elements of a world and an opportunity to learn a more painterly background style, whilst Elina wanted to animate as much as possible, so working together made sense.
